Welcome toSmart Cities, Smart Urbanization Event

Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), organized a series of events pursuant to the clarion call given by Hon'ble Prime Minister to commemorate 75th anniversary of India's Independence as Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM). The conference Smart Cities, Smart Urbanization being organized during 18-20 April 2022 at Surat (one of India's leading Smart Cities) portends to be a watershed event - a confluence of ideas, innovations and partnerships to inform the future trajectory of smart urban development in India.

Focused on five sub-themes viz. Reimagining Public Spaces, Digital Governance, ClimateSmart Cities, Innovation and Smart Finance, the conference disseminated the learnings from Smart Cities to other cities and towns of the country.

Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations were inaugurated by the Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 12 March 2021 which marked a 75- week countdown to the 75th Anniversary of our independence on 15 August 2022 and will continue a year thereafter until 15 August 2023. To this end, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) including various divisions and departments, participated keenly in organizing events both iconic and impactful in the run-up to the three-day Azadi@75 Conference-cum- Expo from 5 - 7 October 2021. Ideas ensconcing the 'whole of government' approach, people's participation, our rich cultural heritage, innovations and future aspirations were implemented through vibrant, large-scale activities commemorating the 75th year of independence.

Following the success of these activities MoHUA turned up the fervor a notch by organizing 30 pre-events from 1 January - 5 February 2022, that was culminated in a grand finale at the 'Smart Cities, Smart Urbanization' event in Surat on 18 - 20 April 2022. The pre-events and the 50 main events reflected either one or more of the five themes - Freedom Struggle, Actions@75, Achievements@75, Ideas@75 and Resolve@75. These events were designed to bring the nation together through activities that celebrate the spirit, strength and aspirations of citizens in urban India. The 3-day "Smart Cities, Smart Urbanization" conference in Surat was organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs with Surat Smart City Corporation Development Ltd., under the clarion call of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav given by Hon'ble Prime Minister to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Independence.
